This program enables the integration of Primary Care and
Community Health
and is used at all three levels of the WHO
"Ideal Health Pyramid" levels of care: Hospital, Clinic/Health
Center, and Family/Community:
-At the
Hospital and Clinic/Health Center level it is used primarily
by
physicians for individual patient counseling, and by nurses
for
both individual and group counseling. (Teaching at the time
of patient need is often the most effective method for behavior
change).
-At the
Family/Comunity level it is used primarily by community
health workers, teachers and church/faith-based or other local
Community Health Educator programs
(See Section III of the
Participatory
Approaches Page for additional Lesson Plan and
Picture Book Versions).

The numbered information sections of the written Handbook are
organized to be used with the numbered Illustrations.
The Handbook format was developed in response to requests by
health care providers, community health workers, teachers, pastors
and other community leaders in developing countries to enable
them to provide ongoing community health care education.  The
program was developed for use by non-medical as well as medical
people, and can be easily individualized to meet the most important
needs of your community.
The
11x17 printed posters and large screen projections from
the PDF files are used to provide the most critical
community-specific information to larger groups of patients.
The
notebook size illustrations are used by physicians and other
educators for smaller groups and for patient-specific teaching.
We also attempt to present the information in a
culturally
acceptable
manner demonstrating a participatory approach that
will be most likely to cause a beneficial change in behavior.
In addition, optional italicized sections are included:
-to address area-specific diseases such as schistosomiasis
-and to assist medical teams.
